The primary section of Sumedha College though  mainly geared to impart good quality basic education with Sri Lankan values,  at the junior section emphasis is laid mainly on international level of education.

The junior school follows, the government, ordinary level bilingual syllabus. The bilingual system of education has been introduced with the objective of giving exposure to our children to a extra  language in addition to their mother tongue. It will also help to improve the intellectual capacity of a child.

The subjects available for students at Sumedha College to offer at ordinary level examination are :
 Science, Maths , English Language ,  Computer Science, Health Science,  Sinhala, Buddhism, Social Studies, Aesthetics and Geography.

Students at Sumedha College are encouraged to continue their higher education in the science medium (Bio Science  and Engineering). The management believes that a child with a knowledge of  science educational background  will be at an  advantage and have better prospects in the competitive  and  lucrative job opportunities.

It is compulsory for all our students to offer Buddhism, Sinhala, Maths, Science,  Computer Science, and English language, as subjects at Ordinary Level examination. Science, Maths and Health Science are taught in the English medium and the rest of the subjects are taught in Sinhala medium.  With a good knowledge of English and computer science, Sumedha college educated children will certainly be at an advantage when pursuing advanced level and university education in English medium.

The Extracurricular activities of the school are: Swimming, Badminton, Cricket, Athletics, Gymnastic, Chess, Scouts, Little Friends, Music and Dancing.

Even though the junior section of Sumedha College gives a high quality International level education to our students, Sri Lankan values are given pride of place in all school activities. Events of National and Religious importance are duly observed with meaning.
